Minor Break in the Hiatus

I should probably be getting ready for my next class right about now, but I read something in the Dayton Daily News as I was waiting for my computer to reboot, and I had to say something about it somewhere before I lost my initial reaction.

The story's headline reads "U.S.: Al-Qaida videos show boys in training". It's an article about how boys who are believed to be around 10 years old are being trained to kidnap and kill civilians in Iraq. There is even a picture of 2 boys holding down a man with another boy pointing an automatic gun at the man! Are you kidding? What kind of future are these kids in for? This makes me forever grateful for being able to raise my family in a country like the United States. My "capstone" class this semester is essentially a parenting class, and we the core of what we talk about is what makes children tick. We discuss the idea of having "time-in" with them so they learn what it's like to have positive interaction with their parents/caretakers, and how that contrasts with "time-out" to be used as a teaching tool for good behavior. So while I'm worried about getting enough time-in with Evan so that I can effectively implement time-out, these kids in Iraq are worried about their technique on how to kidnap and kill. Unbelieveable!! All of a sudden the squabbling I read about regarding political issues doesn't seem that important.

I wish I had time to write more, but I had to say something before it was gone with the wind. Time to get back to work.

Obeying Him...
